Derozan Trade

Spurs Get Draft Capital, Young, Aminu in DeRozan Sign-and-Trade

Chicago Bulls Send All-Star to San Antonio for Future Assets, Veterans

The Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that sends All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan to the Spurs in exchange for Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a 2025 first-round pick, and the rights to a 2022 second-round pick.

Bulls Acquire DeRozan in Lucrative Deal

DeRozan, a four-time NBA All-Star, has agreed to a three-year, $85 million contract with the Bulls. The 32-year-old forward averaged 21.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game for the Spurs last season.

Spurs Receive Young, Aminu, Draft Assets

In exchange for DeRozan, the Spurs will receive Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a 2025 first-round pick, and the rights to a 2022 second-round pick. Young, a 15-year NBA veteran, averaged 10.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Bulls last season. Aminu, a nine-year NBA veteran, averaged 7.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Portland Trail Blazers last season.

Spurs Prioritize Future Growth

The Spurs, who finished with the league's worst record last season, are clearly prioritizing future growth with this trade. Young and Aminu are both veterans on expiring contracts, which gives the Spurs cap flexibility in the coming years. The draft picks will provide the team with additional assets to build around young players like Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker IV, and Keldon Johnson.
